#Climate change and bigger populations will drive up the amount of #electricity used to cool urban U.S. buildings per square foot by at least 20% in some areas, new research shows. It's a "vicious cycle." Read Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability: sustainability.stanford.edu/news/how-clima… Chenghao Wang

Super excited to share our recent work! Collaborating with NREL, we developed a bottom-up modeling approach to study mid-century building energy use in US cities.

Our high-res sampling campaign reveals extensive N2O emissions from an urbanized estuary, but the relationship between N2O-N and NO3-N is nonlinear, suggesting that IPCC's estuarine N2O emission factor is overestimated. In today's edition of Fantastic Friday, we look at a recent update to the seminal Grimmond et al (2011) #IJOC paper. Mathew Lipson and co-authors examine the ability of 30 land surface models to simulate the surface energy balance for one suburban site: rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/qj…

We found that urban wastewater generation scales superlinearly, municipal solid waste scales linearly, and greenhouse gas emissions scale sublinearly with city size. Check our recent paper here: doi.org/10.1038/s44284…

The number of days per year that are simultaneously extremely hot, dry, and have a high fire risk have as much as tripled since 1970 in some parts of South America. The results are published in a study in Communications Earth & Environment: nature.com/articles/s4324…
