This kind of dangerous exploitation has a terrible impact on vulnerable children – recognising it as a specific crime is overdue. I will keep pushing for child victims of abuse to get the support they need to recover & for perpetrators to face the severest possible consequences.

"Children are acutely aware of their parents' worries and the impact these have on their lives - and education." Children's Commissioner Dame Rachel de Souza welcomes the government's expansion of free school meals to children from households on Universal Credit. Full statement 👇🏻

Credit to @ofcom for acting on concerns about children seeing pornography. Every platform must be able to prove they are prioritising children’s safety and removing illegal or damaging content before it causes harm. We need more of this.

Children need our protection. I want Apple, I want X, I want all the social media companies where children see these things to take it seriously. They are global companies and they should do better. telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/06/1…

The girls at the heart of this scandal were failed by every professional meant to protect them. Their voices were ignored and their experiences sidelined. Institutions must be held accountable for turning a blind eye to violence against young girls by predatory men. Statement 👇

Spoke to Lords Public Services Committee about how great public services transform children's lives and the stark consequences of when they don't listen to children. I urged for better multiagency work and more centres like UCLH's The Lighthouse in Camden - currently the only one in England.

Sara Sharif died when she became invisible to services - this can never happen again. I urge Peers to support 'Sara's Law', the amendment to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, to set national thresholds for triggering social care assessments. Full statement 👇

The EHCP system was designed to provide support for additional needs, but the system has become combative and families are tired of fighting. I told Lords Public Services Committee that children tell me they want the support to go to their local school with their friends.

Great to see new housing regulation coming into force next month. Local councils will no longer be able to deny housing to domestic abuse survivors or care leavers based on local connection. An important step for safety and stability lgcplus.com/services/housi…
