Last weekend, our team (The Disability Justice Fund and Lamicare DRO), in partnership with ADD International, conducted one of our most crucial mentorship sessions to date. We were privileged to visit the Sign Message School for the Deaf in Buwanuka Village, Wakiso District.

The focus wasn't just on general awareness, but on drilling down into the African Disability Protocol (ADP)—specifically, its mandates for inclusive education (Article 16) and non-discrimination.

always reach the teachers, administrators, and, most importantly, the parents. Our session brought these key stakeholders together to discuss Article 16 on Education, which demands inclusive quality education for persons with disabilities on an equal basis with others.

By grounding the discussion in the ADP, we empowered this community to know precisely what quality, rights-based education looks like. This is how we move beyond simple access to achieving meaningful inclusion.
