In the port of Kilkeel (N. Ireland) last August I was told that jobs on fishing boats paid ÂŁ70,000 for 5 months work. But there were no local applicants, so fishers from Ghana and the Philippines were employed. Same in Scotland I hear. Remind me, who benefits from Brexit?

In Brussels, just heard the fourth person say to me, tongue in cheek perhaps, "this Corona virus seems particularly targeted at old UK Brexiteers." I'm 65, and a European. It doesn't scare me.

10 years ago we had ÂŁ1000m set aside for CCS in the UK, then that got cancelled. Now we have the announcement of ÂŁ800m for CCS. Churlish to complain, but let's see the details. #CCUS

Healthy people under 60 almost invariably survive. My brother (78) says don't sacrifice their future for those approaching the end. Lift restrictions for under 60s. Target resources at supporting elderly isolation and the infirm." He has a point. #coronavirus

People die prematurely. Good governments respond emotionally and politically. But only hindsight will say whether the resulting harm to the economy caused more premature deaths than the c-virus. Looking at the figures to date the jury will be out for a long while.

Brexit has come early for the UK fishing industry. Sales of crabs, lobsters and langoustines to France and Spain have collapsed because of c-virus. Lessons here for Brexit negotiators. We need those markets.

C-virus : we are destroying opportunities for young people while trying, and probably failing, to keep alive older people who will inevitably die soon anyway. thetimes.co.uk/article/young-…

Numbers. The WHO says 290,000-650,000 people die globally of flu each year. So far 41,000 people have died of Covoid-19 (the UK number is approaching 2,000). In every 'normal' week 10,000 die in the UK. Every day the population of the planet increases by more than 200,000.

Ironic that despite Brexit the European Parliament is using English more than ever before. Video conferencing of meetings is making interpretation from 24 languages practically impossible.

Why are we destroying the world's oceans, and can we establish good sense and order before it is too late? Find out next Tuesday.
