Andrzej Grzybowski A divinity student in New Jersey constructed glasses to correct his own astigmatism by 1826, but was ignored by American doctors! He noticed the horizontal cross-rigging of ships in New York was more clear than the vertical masts--crude astigmatic dial! theophthalmologist.com/issues/2025/ar…
