There was a glorious era in American cinema that celebrated domestic theatre, round about the 50s and 60s. So many more than I’ve noted here. What gave rise to it? And how? (And how come it will never happen again? Or will it? )

No Down Payment (1957, d. M. Ritt). Been a long time since I’ve seen this Cheeveresque film. Dark stuff. Ready for a re-viewing. Who’s a fan?

It’s #FridayReads time! Let’s boost all signals. Repost this and let us know what to repost for you. Coyote Songs and Zero Saints are here again, but I’m home and it feels like this one matters now more than ever. amazon.com/gp/aw/d/031642… bookshop.org/p/books/house-…

Saw this in an on-line article from MEDIUM. No attribution, however. Looks like it could be from the 40s or 50s. Anyone ever seen this, my fellow Americanists?

Late 19th c. St. ThĆ©rĆØse of Lisieux as Joan. And in death just a few years later. Some of the saddest photos I’ve ever seen. (And that’s sayin’ somethin’.)

Fantastic that so many Appalachian writers are making headway. Jeez, I love it (and I’m not even from the region.) May I suggest that we not forget about earlier practitioners . . . maybe outside of the canon proper? Giles is Queen. Read App. lit., friends, far and wide. šŸ’™
