"You can do good science anywhere - but you need to have good mentorship and support.ā #PhD student Christine Rodger interviews MRC_HGU Group Leader Catalina Vallejos (catavallejos.bsky.social) for this new blog post: 'A (Virtual) Sit Down with Dr Catalina Vallejos' blogs.ed.ac.uk/institute-gene⦠#WomenInScience

Iām going to use the The Times and The Sunday Times bar-chart approach next time the results of my experiments do not come out as I had hopedā¦

To round off the day, students were split into groups to work with our researchers. This gave the students a first-hand experience of the facilities across Centre for Genomic and Experimental Medicine, Edinburgh Cancer Research and MRC_HGU Thank you to all of the researchers and students who took part! #ScienceInsights22

For those interested in doing a PhD in epigenetics, we have a BBSRC EastBio DTP project collaborating with Ramon Grima using single-molecule analysis of Nanopore data to understand the regulation of DNA methylation patterns. Deadline 5th Dec (please RT): ed.ac.uk/mrc-human-geneā¦

Yesterday I decided to stop editing out all the exclamation marks in my emails. Iāve done this for years to seem āmore professional.ā But what does that really mean???? Less female? Less young? Less excited? Well Iām young and female and IM EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get used to it.

This week, 40+ fifth year high school pupils are at The University of Edinburgh to take part in Science Insights - our exciting work experience programme for budding research scientists. We're looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Institute tomorrow! #SI2023 ed.ac.uk/medicine-vet-mā¦

#SI2023 pupils in pairs shadow our staff & students for a 2-hour IGC Wet or Dry Lab / Facility Taster Session, to gain insights into HOW research is undertaken here Institute of Genetics and Cancer MRC_HGU Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre for Genomic and Experimental Medicine. Thanks to everyone who enabled this. Institute for Regeneration and Repair The Roslin Institute

That's a wrap for our Doors Open Days! Was wonderful to welcome so many curious and engaged visitors for talks, tours and drop in activities. Many thanks to all of our staff and student volunteers!

š Delved into "#AI and #Healthcare: The Next Frontier" at TEDxUniversityofEdinburgh. From retina scans & MRI tech to protein design, AI emerges as a valuable ally in healthcare is pivotal. However... can we trust it? Video link coming soon. Thanks to everyone who joined! š TED Talks

Looks like it will be a great meeting and sorry to be missing it, enjoy everyone. Look out for Christine Rodger and Andreanna Wright from the lab to hear about their exciting projects using synthetic biology to understand DNA methylation. #epigenetics.

Went with Christine Rodger to see Richard Dawkins talk about genetics, evolution, and proteins! Also got him to sign our copy The Selfish Gene š§¬
