The stark financial and jobs crisis in general practice highlighted by Rowena Christmas "I've got patients screaming out for appointments... (but) my accountant says if we don't cut GP sessions we are going to go under. That is just complete madness.

In her recent message to members, Rowena Christmas addressed the lack of GP jobs in Wales while workloads remain unsustainably high.

"I have met with doctors who are facing the harrowing challenge of struggling to find suitable work. This situation is scandalous and would have been impossible to imagine just a few short years ago." - Rowena Christmas

Rowena Christmas "Having seen the joy, pride & excitement felt by doctors & their families at the new members' ceremony... it is heartbreaking to realise that after all their work & commitment, many newly qualified doctors are afraid they may have to leave Wales... to find secure employment."

"The lack of available jobs is directly caused by the steady depletion of core GMS funding... coupled with inflation..., increases in the National Living Wage, along with the most recent shock of increased employers' National Insurance contributions" - Rowena Christmas

We welcome Welsh Government’s important step to make Wales the first Marmot Nation. Tackling health inequalities needs whole-Govt action on housing, education, work & more. GPs see the impact daily & we’re here to help shape a fairer, healthier Wales.

"The medical profession in Wales continues to experience extraordinary pressure, driven by resource constraint. Nowhere is this more acute than in General Practice." Iona Collins.DOCTOR. addresses #BMAARM25
