New article with Kristina Jessen Hansen & Lene Holm Pedersen: People really hate pay raises for politicians. However, the argument that pay raises can attract more competent politicians might make them more accepting of such raises, right? Nope, not at all! (1/3) academic.oup.com/ijpor/article/…

Don’t tell people to "trust science:” that makes them fall for pseudoscience Instead, teach how science works. As people learn that (like how theories are built & tested) they accept valid findings like climate change, evolution & vaccines, regardless of their ideological views!

Disagreeing with others over hot-button issues - COVID-19 policy, gun control - can provoke dislike and distrust, but in new work out today @ JEP:Gen, I show that common tactics people use to *avoid* taking a stand can be just as costly. A 🧵 on the costs of moral neutrality...

#dkpol #dkmedier KU Samfundsvidenskab

New article out in American Political Science Review. We analyze trends in inequality and redistribution in 17 countries since 1980 and show that rising inequality has not increased the power of the rich over taxation and redistribution. The US is a major outlier, however. cambridge.org/core/journals/… 1/n

Computational Social Science & Humanities at work! Today, we took an important first step in forming a strong interdisciplinary community of practice. Key take aways: Cross facilitation, SSH designated tools and analytics, a subfield in its own right. #dkforsk #AAUSSH

I am on twitter for the science. But if all I would ever get out of this platform is to help spread the word about this absolute master piece then I would be okay with that.

Sometimes you read an article that makes a lot of things make sense. Hansen recent article is one of them. Let's do a small recap on the litterature about redistributive preferences, and let me explain why this article is so interesting. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

An important step for the PA community. Only when both researchers and journals are incentivized and equally committed to publish null-findings will problems with selective reporting be a thing of the past. Incentivised seems like a long shot, so let us start with commitment!

My dear colleague Erkan Güneş led this great project on using LLMs to code policy documents. Check it out! In short: LLMs can be a useful tool, but substantial human interaction is still needed to get us there.

With a fantastic group of students, Camilla Bøgeskov and I have trained a Transkribus model that reads the millions of digitised newspaper pages from the 18th and 19th c. in the Royal Library with an error rate of about 0.5%. The existing OCR errs about 50% of the time. Try it out!

Interested in how GPT and Gemini might fare in text classification? Erkan Güneş and I have just published a paper on that very subject using political texts!
