Nothing in Biology—whether synthetic or naturally-occurring—is truly orthogonal. Devices and modules may be more or less autonomous but not orthogonal, which is a qualitative, yes/no notion. Mere language does not create reality. But I see the term over & over in SynBio papers 🤔
