the first Cop City RICO trial starts today, two years after the indictment (a nonsensical document that sought to criminalize basic acts of mutual aid, among other things) came down. what happens to Ayla King, first of the 61 people to be tried, will impact protest everywhere.

Ayla was a teenager when she was arrested in Atlanta in 2023, attending a music festival near the forest. Because of a direct action a mile away, police responded by randomly arresting people at the music festival, focusing on those who were visiting Atlanta for the weekend.

So a random arrest at a music festival ended in a charge of domestic terrorism and inclusion in a RICO case. The state focused on arresting out of town people who had come for the festival and other events, trying to underline their outside agitator narrative.

Striking city workers in Philly with AFSCME DC33 – from sanitation to public works to libraries – are fighting for living wages to stay in the city they keep running. As the strike enters its 2nd week, the trash piles are rising and pressure grows on the city to make a fair deal.

It’s honestly so disrespectful and irresponsible that the national media has mostly ignored the afscme33 city workers’ strike in Philly, now in week two. It’s a huge story with massive implications for the 6th biggest city in the country. Hell, I’ll write about it! Email me!

Late-stage capitalism (fascism) requires brutal force to maintain itself. This is why the US government has spent the past several decades expanding police, surveillance & military while neglecting education, health & social safety nets. The hammer is coming down on all of us.
