Syria, last 24 hours: * US military returns in force from Iraq to guard oil fields * Thousands of refugees stream in other direction into northern Iraq * Erdogan threatens again to “do the cleansing work” in Kurdish areas US forces left to Russia and Assad Incoherent

For five months there has been joint intel cooperation on the ground and accurate monitoring, until we achieved a joint operation to kill Abu Bakir al-Bagdadi. Thanks to everybody who participate in this great mission. Donald J. Trump #SDF #USArmy #Rojava #Baghdadi

Grateful to Special Operations forces, intelligence/counterterrorism experts, & allies who successfully executed this risky, complex mission. Especially thankful to our Kurdish partners who provided invaluable intelligence support.

Thank you all for praying and for helping share what’s really happening in northeastern Syria. Here’s the update from today, Oct. 27, from Tel Tamir. Part 1 of 2

Senator Chris Van Hollen (@chrisvanhollen) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The House passed a sanctions bill 403 to 16, sending a signal that Congress will not stand by while Turkey and its proxies slaughter our Syrian Kurdish allies and fuel the revival of ISIS. Senate must stop dithering and act—the lives of our allies and our security are at risk.

Chairman Eliot Engel today delivered remarks in support of his #PACTAct, which imposes sanctions on Turkey for its military invasion of northern Syria. ⬇️Learn more about his legislation⬇️ foreignaffairs.house.gov/2019/10/engel-…

Ready to take up House bill as passed! Awesome bipartisan takedown of Turkey’s invasion just occurred in the House with overwhelming support from Democrats and Republicans – 403-16.

Lindsey Graham (@lindseygrahamsc) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I expect the Senate will take up this cause and let Turkey unequivocally know that the United States will not sit on the sidelines as they create problems for us and our allies.

Erdogan created this mess and he needs to fix it. Congress is intent on standing by the Kurds and SDF forces who helped us destroy ISIS against Turkish aggression.

Senator Chris Van Hollen (@chrisvanhollen) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Trump's envoy told me Turkey would suffer consequences if it’s proxies attacked beyond Pence-Erdogan "safe zone." Just another empty threat. Turkish fighters are attacking with impunity beyond 30km line—but no action from Trump. Senate must hold Erdogan and Trump accountable.

Senator Chris Van Hollen (@chrisvanhollen) 's Twitter Profile Photo

All McConnell wants to do is protect Trump from his disastrous decision. The House sanctions bill passed with 400+ votes. The Senate should pass it without delay to hold Turkey accountable, send a strong signal to our allies and stop the resurgence of ISIS.thehill.com/homenews/senat…

I spent a lot of time with US Special Forces on the ground in Syria where they had a clear mission over two administrations to defeat ISIS. These images of US forces now in Syria with an ill-defined mission to guard small oil fields make me cringe.

#OTD three years ago, Selahattin Demirtaş was unjustly imprisoned by Turkey’s #Erdogan. I sponsor his case through Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission #DefendingFreedoms Project and will continue to fight for his release. #FreeDemirtaş raskin.house.gov/media/press-re…

Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission Democratically-elected members of government like #Demirtaş should not be rotting in prison simply because their party is out of power. I stand with Selahattin Demirtaş and call on the Government of #Turkey to release him immediately.

I’ve worked for three presidents and participated in a number of foreign leader calls. I cannot recall a president that seems to believe — and then parrots — whatever a foreign leader tells him on the phone. Such information is often false, intended to influence more than inform.

I am close to Armenian Catholics of Qamishli, in Syria, as they gather for the funeral of their parish priest, Father Hovsep Bedoyan, who was killed yesterday together with his father. I pray for them, their families, and for all Christians in Syria.

Massive attacks underway against the kurds in northern syria. No ceasefire. Total nonsenses there is. US military officials tell me they are ashamed, “sickened.” It’s cold now outside. What about the families, and kids, out of their homes? On Assignment with Richard Engel #AmericanBetrayal

Unbelivable how much evil is done in the name of God. A source from the family of Syrian Syriac fighter Sa'id Abdul-Ahad told "North Press" that Syrian rebels supported by Turkey retain the body of the fighter they killed and are negotiating for a sum of $10,000 to return it.
