Yellow-bellied Flycatchers are just now passing through in full force in Texas. These colorful Empidonax travel up to the boreal forest in the extreme north and winter in southern Mexico and Central America.

Eastern Kingbird dragging its bill across the surface of a pond. I've never seen such behavior. Anyone else ever see something like this? Have I overlooked this behavior?

It's a good idea to learn how to drive, but unless one knows where to go, there's no point in driving. In other words, learn all the math, physics, coding you can, but those skills won't be useful unless one has an idea of where to go.

Golden-winged Warbler in Minnesota. These warblers prefer deciduous trees, often in second growth areas. Their look and their feeding behaviors often remind me a little bit of chickadees.

One of the highlights with Cin-Ty Lee at the biggest week event in Ohio was a wonderful thunder storm that rolled in but it didn’t deter the singing red-winged blackbirds - oil on canvasboard

I've never really liked the slogans "follow the science" or "believe in the science". Science and scientists are not always correct. It is the PROCESS of good science that one should follow. Science, in the long run, is self-correcting. We may not ever find the final truth, but

One of the coolest outcrops ever. This outcrop is a migmatite, in this case, a metasedimentary rock that is being deformed, partially melted and intruded by other melts. Fragments of original unmelted protoliths with earlier generation of dikes (calcsilicate lenses) r preserved.

A nice example of spheroidal weathering of gabbroic plutonic rocks. Weathering proceeds first along joints and other fractures gradually “eating away” at the rock. The less weathered rock in between joints are the corestones. Peninsular Ramges Barholith, Southern California.

Contact between granitic pluton and schists in a continental arc. Weathering of plutonic rocks proceeds along fractures, leaving behind unweathered bouldery corestones. Schists weather more uniformly. Vegetation follows geology. Peninsular Ranges Batholith, California.

The coolest outcrop. Invasion and remelting of schists by S-type granites. Calc-silicate clast with an earlier generation fo a feldspar dike remains preserved.
