🤔 Can I have primary hyperparathyroidism even if my calcium is “normal”? Yes—you can. 📉📈 Sometimes calcium levels fluctuate or stay in the high-normal range, but elevated PTH tells the real story. 🧪 Always look at labs together to get the full picture. #PAM2025

🩺 Seeing a surgeon for primary hyperparathyroidism? Key questions to ask: 🔹 # parathyroid surgeries you perform/year? 🔹 Do you use intraoperative PTH monitoring? 🔹 Chances I’ll need another surgery? 🔹 What’s the recovery like? Resource: buff.ly/rJhXwxV #PAM2025

What’s IOPTH and why does it matter? During parathyroid surgery, most expert surgeons measure intraoperative PTH (IOPTH) levels to confirm the overactive gland was removed. This works because PTH drops SO quickly. A drop of >50% at 10 min usually means you’re cured. #PAM2025

Did your parathyroid scan come back negative? Scans can miss small tumors or multiple overactive glands—but that doesn't mean you don’t have primary hyperpara. ✅ An experienced parathyroid surgeon can often find the problem—even when scans don’t. #PAM2025 @Paratroupers1

4D Parathyroid CT is one of the most sensitive scans for spotting overactive parathyroid glands—especially when multiple glands are involved or in unusual locations other tests might miss. But remember, primary hyperparathyroidism is diagnosed by blood tests—not scans. #PAM2025

Surgeons use scans before parathyroid surgery to find hidden glands and plan a successful operation. Radiolabeled 18F-fluorocholine PET/CT has limited availability but may be useful for finding hidden glands that can't be located with other scans. #PAM2025 @Paratroupers1

🧬 Did you know primary hyperparathyroidism can sometimes run in families? Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia (MEN) is a group of rare genetic syndromes that affect multiple hormone-producing organs and nearly all patients with MEN1 develop primary hyperparathyroidism. #PAM2025

Familial Hypocalciuric Hypercalcemia (FHH) is a rare genetic condition that causes high blood calcium but very low urine calcium. It’s caused by a change in the calcium-sensing receptor gene, and it can look a lot like primary hyperparathyroidism—but it’s not the same! #PAM2025

Is Your Surgeon High-Volume? Why It Matters. When it comes to parathyroid surgery, experience makes a difference. 🔹 High-volume surgeons perform at least 30–50 parathyroid operations per year. 🔹 They have higher cure rates and fewer complications. buff.ly/e8Ir6Hn
