Having resigned from The Labour Party I have been removed as Chair (and member) of Bham City Council Planning Committee. It has been a great honour to serve in this role over the last 2.5 years, and I thank all committee members for their support

Caught up with a client this week who’s been doing some engagement with children all over #Birmingham and found that their common issue was that there’s nowhere in the city centre for them. Is Europe’s most youthful city the least child-friendly? #play CityPark4Brum ROAM

Artists and activists gathered in Rotterdam to protest Afghanistan’s gender apartheid, where women are banned from schools, work, gyms, parks, showing their faces, or even speaking loudly. Afghan women need global solidarity in their fight against the Taliban.

A deep dive into a 859 year old Birmingham market threatened by managed decline and a lack of political will power from the council. Will it go the way of London’s Smithfield? Birmingham Dispatch. birminghamdispatch.co.uk/p/after-859-ye…

People don't know how great Brutalist architecture it looks framed by green. The Pestana in Madeira looks almost exactly like The Ringway in Birmingham. The problem isn't the building style. It is the setting. Surround brutalist buildings with lush grass & trees!

Bham is notably absent from national political discourse but this is otherwise quite ignorant. Off the top of my head Stewart Lee, Kit de Waal, Malkit Singh, Laura Mvula, Jonathan Coe, Lee Child, John Oliver, Liz Berry, Malala Yousafzai are all pretty relevant. jezc

Remember there are those who grimace when they hear the city being spoken ill of but perhaps don't have the time nor the inclination to point a few things out. That we have one of the five major ballet companies of the United Kingdom, for example, and the busiest single theatre

There is no money for a temporary market and I would not like to sit on the committee that ends 900 years of history by approving the loss of the oldest market in continual operation from the same site in the UK.

From the BBC Archive: Will CARS Spell the Death of Birmingham City Centre? (1964) I'm afraid it did. Birmingham planners bet big on cars in the 1960s, reshaping the city around traffic flow—not people. The result? A hollowed-out centre, struggling retail, and urban decline.

It was fantastic to meet Friends of Swanshurst Park and carry out a bird survey ahead of our guided walks next month. 32 species were recorded which shows how much of an urban oasis this park, that gave me so much in childhood, is! 5 butterfly species on the wing too! #BrumBiosphere
