Inspiring talk this morning by @KLemonLab at the #GRCStrepBio2022. It was so great to be part of this session, and thanks to Kimberly Kline 🏔 for leading the discussion- there is so much left to uncover in the realm of microbial community interactions!

The first of a two-saga papers is now available in BioRxiv. In this paper, we are describing how a series of oxidative reactions lead to the release of heme and nutrients by streptococci. A collaboration with Padilla-Benavides lab and Weiser Lab @ NYU Langone Health

The website for Shenoy Lab of Barrier Immunobiology Dept of Microbiology & Immunology @ the Univ of MI & PCCM U of Michigan is up! We will explore how lung epithelial cells & their interactions with host + environmental factors optimize barrier immunity during health & disease. We start in April 2023! shenoy.lab.medicine.umich.edu

The gut microbiome is an "organ" that participates in metabolism, immunity, and infection prevention. Anti-anaerobic antibiotics thus cause a kind of "organ failure." I worry this is hurting our patients. New from our lab in ERS publications 1/9 tinyurl.com/cmv63rnn

It's been great meeting with postdocs about the faculty position application process! Put together some collected thoughts on the process here. Main thing I've noticed: work on describing your research and *why it's important*. Concrete examples within. docs.google.com/document/d/1Ye…

The RAPID program through UCSD was an excellent experience- grant boot camps (with mock study sections), career guidance, and new mentors. I highly recommend to other early career PIs in infectious disease research! Apps due Feb 28. #UCSD_RAPID

Check out this #JLB highlighted article by Horn's team where they identify neutrophils as a critical cellular target of IL-10–directed immune suppression, as neutrophil-mediated clearance of Strep pneumoniae is improved in the absence of IL-10 receptor. buff.ly/3tHstTg

This is a great career development program for junior faculty- I highly recommend after participating myself in the first RAPID cohort! Particularly helpful for preparing your first R01 submission and connecting with both new and senior investigators in the field.
