In 2020, a male Ethiopian wolf in the Simien Mountains sustained a severe leg injury caused by a gun shot. Unable to keep up with his pack, in a place as harsh and exposed as the Ethiopian highlands, that’s usually the end of the story. But this time, it wasn’t.

WildCRU is relocating to the Life and Mind Building, bringing some changes to our Postgraduate Diploma in Wildlife Conservation Practice. From 2026, our course will begin in late September and run until May, with applications for our next course expected to open in early 2026.

Most Ethiopian wolf packs in this remote area were in a canine distemper virus vaccine trisl. Recapturing some will provide valuable information on survival and immunity, another step in our work to save these guardians of the Roof of Africa from the brink of extinction.
