Today Pefrio came to Morriston Hospital for his lip reconstruction. He has settled in well on the Children’s Ward M and is being looked after by the ward staff.

Today Pefrio and his family were given a babble bag during a post-operative clinic. Here he is with some of the contents. The family were given advice on modelling speech sounds made at the front of the mouth. These include a 'p', 'b', 't' and 'd' sound.

Sometimes Pefrio can be a bit shy and nervous around new people. He is meeting today with Tom, one of our psychology team, to help him to feel more confident around others.

Pefrio is chatting on the phone to Andrea, our Cleft Co-ordinator. If you ring up the cleft team, you will speak to her, or one of our other friendly admin staff.

Christmas can be overwhelming with changes to routines, extra plans, different lights and noises. It’s helpful to take time to do something more calming. Today Pefrio did some mindful colouring. These colouring sheets will be available during your cleft appointment in December.

Pefrio and his parents have met with our Cleft Nurses: Michaela, Chuley, Nicola and Emma. Families usually meet our cleft nurses first in their cleft journey to learn about having a cleft, and to help with any early feeding.

This is Pefrio’s Hospital Passport, which he received during a pre-operative clinic today. This helps him know what will happen during his operation and let staff know what will help make his hospital stay easier for him

Today Pefrio will have his Alveolar Bone Graft. He has shown his Hospital Passport to the staff. Here he is with the play specialists on Ward M who are helping him to relax.

Today Pefrio attended a post-operative clinic and received a certificate for completing his Hospital Passport! Here he is with Lowri, an Assistant Psychologist in the cleft team

Pefrio needs to have a videofluoroscopy today, so is in our VF suite. Rhian is with him to help him make the best speech sounds for the recording!

It is important to look after your teeth and to get check-ups. Today Pefrio met with our Paediatric Dentist, Mechelle and one of our dental nurses, Rachel.

It is helpful to take photos through different stages of the cleft journey. We have special photographers here that are trained in taking these special photos. Here is Pefrio in the studio ready for his shoot!

Today Pefrio met with Matt Fell, our Cleft Surgeon. Matt will sometimes sketch babies before surgery. Pefrio was thrilled to see Matt’s sketch of himself after his cleft lip reconstruction surgery.

Our medical illustration service is embedded in the care pathway of cleft patients. Thank you Cleft Team Wales for raising awareness of our role.

Our orthodontist, Charlotte is delighted to see that Pefrio has really been looking after his teeth! He is going to have some braces to help straighten his teeth. He gets to choose which colour brackets he wants.

Today Pefrio attended an MDT clinic where he received a speech assessment. Here he is with Rhian and Laura, members of our Speech and Language Therapy team.

Pefrio came along to the Welsh Centre for Cleft Lip and Palate’s Christmas party! Here he is pictured with Aimee, the Consultant Clinical Psychologist for the team.

Pefrio is feeling rather full after a delicious Christmas Dinner with members of the team! He especially loved his carrots and sprouts!
