Rufus, a character who didn’t make the final film, was at one point the local, not-so-attractive newsperson who gets pushed aside when the Mayor wants to unveil to the world the new Swallow Falls - bearing the face of a more appealing television personality, Sam Sparks. #c10udy

The appearance of clouds in the film sees an interesting progression throughout the story, starting out as naturalistic in shape and color, then evolving into more whimsical shapes, before becoming scary and ominous once things get out of control. #c10udy

Salty Peppers was another character that got cut. “His full name was Salvatore Pepperoncini Cardini, the twin brother of Caesar Cardini, whose more popular Caesar salad caused the rise of the anchovy industry and the subsequent fall of sardines,” explains Chris Miller. #c10udy

Being a disaster film, the art department had a blast brainstorming the various food-related catastrophes that could overcome the “real” world, including landmarks from around the globe. #c10udy

An early version of the story had Flint and Sam confronting a giant food monster off the coast of Swallow Falls. According to Phil Lord, “the Mayor had the FLDSMDFR shot out of the sky and it fell into the ocean. Since the machine runs on water, a huge monster emerged!” #c10udy
