Honored to present the 2025 #WorldBicycleDay Award to Coach Alex Clark of Dunbar HS, Washington, DC—recognizing his inspiring work with students through cycling. Joined by past winners & legends like Janette Sadik-Khan, it was a powerful day for the global bike bus community.

If you ever want to rile up the car lobby, show them pictures of happy kids riding their bikes on streets made safe by reducing or eliminating car traffic. They absolutely can’t stand it.

High volumes of car traffic degrade neighbourhood cohesion, reduce informal social ties, and weaken the liveability of streets. Conversely, calmer streets encourage stronger community bonds and better quality of life. (📜 Donald Appleyard, 1981)

"People in cars don't purposely block roads" Here's a video that went viral of a bunch of people in cars purposely blocking a road to hide from a hail storm, forcing everyone behind them to be stuck in a hail storm.

Sadly, the now-famous summer activation of the former highway for cars running along the Seine River in Paris, transforming it into a vibrant and popular people-place, doesn’t start for another two weeks. So this is all that’s going on. Yes, I’m being sarcastic. #ParisPlage

I've been touring Low Traffic Neighborhoods in London, some with just incredible modal filters. They vary greatly. But this one blew my mind with its vastness & simplicity. Amazing stuff. Watch all the clips. No SPFX or AI!😀 Streetsblog New York Open Plans Ben Furnas Brent Toderian

"Ban Cars" is a losing argument. Here's the pitch that wins: "We should build neighborhoods and cities where cars are an option, but not a necessity. Neighborhoods where you can walk your child to the park, and make a quick pitstop at the grocery store on your way home."

Avoid this like the plague: school car lines are the ultimate policy failures. And just to be clear, being in one does not make you a failure. The failure is in the policies that were put in place—intentionally or not—that funnel families into cars.
