The HBP rule should be simple: - If the ball is in the strike zone, the result is a strike. - If the ball is outside the strike zone, the result is an HBP. Trying to determine a hitter’s intent is worthless.

Nearly every single D1 baseball program (and many NAIA/D2s) are hunting for portal players over HS right now. Yet, we are confused as to why guys have good years then hit the portal to level up? Raises draft stock, NIL, etc... Society created it, like it or not.

Velocity matters. It continues to be the best predictor of success. It gives pitchers more margin for error, shortens reaction time, and makes offspeed pitches play up. That changeup is a lot nastier when it’s following fuel. Chase velocity—but be sure to do it with a plan.
