Players: What are you doing to invest in your own development? Mandatory is what everyone does. It’s the extra work & sacrifices that create champions! Use every opportunity & resource to improve. Push yourself beyond your comfort zone. It’s gritty hard work, but well worth it.

When you’re the guy at the top of the 1-3-1

Parents: You want your child to play, but if he/she isn’t, encourage them to compete hard in practice, keep a great attitude & be a good teammate. Don’t disparage others because of it. There’s no conspiracy theory. Sometimes the kids in front of them are just better at that time.

Players: It’s easy to show a coach how tough you are when things are going well. The real test comes with adversity. It has a tendency to expose a player’s attitude, behavior, work habits, knowledge, dedication, passion & coachability. Show you can handle it when things get tough

Players: Be about TEAM. Selfish players: Don’t put in extra time Focus on personal stats Blame coaches/teammates/refs Separate themselves from team Whine about playing time Pout after team wins Are lazy on D Don’t trust coaches/ teammates Believe they’re entitled Take ME shots

The best things I can hear from a coach when recruiting their player is: • Never a problem off the court • Handles business in the classroom • Practices hard every day • Has a great attitude and strong body language • Cares about teammates and makes them better

As someone who has worked at a few places I believe nothing is bigger than culture.

Izzo hasn’t given in to the times — gotta really respect that. He still coaches the dudes hard, teaches shot selection, demands defense & rebounding. Calls them out if they don’t hustle. Great stuff

Players: It’s hard to appreciate the people who push you the most, but eventually you realize the impact they made in your life. When coaches/teachers/parents hold you to very high standards, it’s because they care & want you to succeed. Translate that into reaching your dreams.

Mental strength is as important as physical strength. Everything you do, try, want & get begins in your mind. Thinking about a situation positively can lead to positive results. The opposite is also true. Don’t overthink or get in your own way. A positive mindset goes a long way!

I will never understand why men (or women) who do not follow the @wnba feel such desperate need to disparage it. Guess what... I don’t go to the opera...I also don’t tell people why I choose not to be an opera fan! But I do respect the opera!!! #toeachherown #cantweallgetalong
