Education can help renew democracies!   Today, in Berlin, Council of Europe Education Department in cooperation with GermanForeignOffice and other key partners is launching the preparatory phase of the European Space for Citizenship Education which aims to provide a framework for ensuring quality

Education cannot bring all the answers to the reasons why young people are losing trust in democracy, but it can provide them with the competences they need to demand, look for and help to shape the right answers themselves. This is what the European space is set to support.

I will be speaking on CoE work on education for democratic culture, which requires political attention, resources, support for teachers - and perhaps most importantly, schools in which competences for democratic culture are not only taught, but also experienced and practiced.
