Welcome back, students! We're excited to begin a new semester here at Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary!

Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Scholastica, traditionally considered the twin sister of Saint Benedict and the foundress of Benedictine communities of women. As we honor St. Scholastica, may we be inspired by her wisdom, devotion, and love of prayer.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation, the moment Mary said "yes" to God's great invitation. As we celebrate Mary's courageous "yes" let us be attentive to the ways that God is inviting us to say yes this Lenten season.

Today we mourn the passing of Pope Francis, our devoted shepherd who faithfully lived the values of the Gospel with courage, humility, and love. May we remember and continue to live out the good works of Pope Francis's life, lifting up all that he has done for the glory of God.

Habemus Papam! We have a pope! We join Catholics around the world in celebrating the election of Pope Leo XIV. Please join us in praying for him as he takes up his new role leading the Church.

Congratulations to our graduates! We are so incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and we eagerly anticipate the remarkable contributions they will make in their next chapter of spiritual leadership and service. Cheers, SOT/Sem grads!

Today we celebrate Pentecost, the descending of the Holy Spirit down upon the Apostles. As a community of faith, we believe that the Spirit continues to enliven us with gifts so that we can share in the mission of proclaiming the good news.

On this feast of St. Benedict we give thanks for all Benedictines who have dedicated their lives to living out the Gospel in profound ways. As a graduate school, we strive to emulate a life-long pursuit of wisdom and a deep spiritual life, inspired by Saint Benedict.

Happy first day of the 2025 fall semester! May this new semester foster a continued attentiveness to the Holy Spirit, uplifting a love of learning and a desire to serve God and one another. We wish our students, faculty, and staff a blessed and fulfilling semester ahead.
