Reason 73 We Love CLB: Helping CLB consumers get around town through orientation and mobility training. During orientation and mobility training, individuals will learn safety techniques, receive hands-on practice navigating various environments, and learn how to use a cane!

Reason 70 We Love CLB: How we’ve adapted over the past 100 plus years. Until 2008, we created a publication called the Lamplighter and mail it out to our supporters. Today, we send a monthly email called the Lamp Lighter, full of updates on the organization and consumer stories!

We loved taking the Mobile Eye Care Unit to Montgomery County Public Schools in June to provide eye exams. And in July, we returned to distribute eyeglasses for the students we saw. Each student got two pairs - one for school and one for home! Thank you @gloriajcsl for the 📷!

Our FAB space is home to Foundations of Adjustment to Blindness (FAB) classes. The FAB setting looks like any average apartment, and consumers meet here to learn how to live independently. Some skills include pouring yourself tea, cooking, ironing, and identifying clothes.

One of our earliest employment opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired was caning chairs. Also, we packaged lightbulbs and other products and worked in manufacturing. As the workforce evolved, our employment opportunities did, too! #clb125

As we reminisce over our 125 year history, we remember former programs like Time to Rap. Time to Rap was a beloved teenage support and activity group. This photo was from a group outing at a food bank.

We’ve seen accessibility enhance and grow in incredible ways over the past 125 years. This photo shows a past Accessible Docs Class. Now, we host Assistive Technology Training, where we teach consumers how to use software and tools that increase access and independence.
