Wealthy Australian private schools that charge $40k+ per year and can afford to drop $125m on an aquatic centre should not receive a cent of government funding.

Fantastic showcase of science excellence at the AIMS@JCU seminar day last Friday! From microplastics & machine learning to coral seeding, shark surveys and sharing knowledge on Sea Country- congrats to all participants. Australia's tropical marine science is in good hands.

Another story in four parts. You can surface sterilize used soda bottles and they make GREAT baffle flasks for microbial protein production. Two orders of magnitude in savings and minimal effort to sterilize with dilute bleach + distilled water rinse. RFP in various volumes @ 37C

For only $143, Elsevier/Springer will send me a PDF of my accepted paper that I can share with 25 people :). Publishers again adding tremendous value. I wouldn't know what to do without this attractive option.

In the years I’ve been making Stuff The British Stole, the biggest lesson for me has been how much history hides behind politeness—polite plaques, polite speeches, polite monarchs. I don’t have Lidia Thorpe's life experience, and it’s not appropriate for me to offer commentary

Shout out to @anuenueurchinhatchery for these Hawa‘e maoli (Collector Urchins) that are taking up residence in CRL coral tanks. These urchins will graze on the turf algae that grows on plugs, racks, and tank walls, which can outcompete with the small corals growing.
