With holes perched along the picturesque Cork Harbour, and others routed through and over an old quarry, splendid views and captivating golf await the golfer when he/she visits Cork Golf Club. The club was founded in 1888 and moved to its present site on Little Island in 1897.

The course in Little Island began with 4 holes, saw and extension to 9 holes by Scottish professional David Brown in 1901, and was extended to 18 holes in 1911 with contributions from Brown again and also the great Harry Vardon.

An upgrading of the course was desired in the years after World War I and an invitation was extended to none other than Dr. Alister MacKenzie with The Good Doctor's course opening in 1925. A wonderful club to visit for a game.

One of the seminal moments in Cork GC's history was when the clubhouse burned down in 1945. This photo taken 80 years ago today, on the day after the fire shows the devastation.

Ger Moore was the winner of last weekend's DGC Junior Scratch Cup, sponsored by EHS International (Founded by Chris Mee). On the Par 70 Black Course, Ger won with a superb 70 gross. Karl Lynch from Cork Golf Club was 2nd, and Ross Higgins was 3rd.

Our Senior Foursomes ladies had a practice round at Cork Golf Club yesterday. Deirdre O' Sullivan was "pheasantly surprised" when some of the locals arrived to offer to help her read the line of one of her putts! 😀
