I’m very grateful to the AEA Journals board for this prize. This article was my job market paper, so it is extra special to me. A special thank you goes to C. Kirabo Jackson, who was the best editor possible for this paper and made its final version so much better.

Thought-provoking paper on the macro implications of poor mental health. It causes individuals to have pessimistic expectations and makes them work, consume & invest less in risky assets. I would have been more careful with the choice of words though. nber.org/papers/w32354
