In our new review, we discuss how aiming for the best answers leads to inconsistent perception: doi.org/10.3389/fnint.… In this digest, I will present some examples. The first is that the Brentano illusion affects the length (green) of a line, but not the endpoints (blue) (1/5)

Inspired by recent preprint failing to replicate some of our earlier findings, we just did a study that suggests: 1. Some (but obv not all) size illusions -do- share common mechanisms. 2. It really does matter -how- you measure the illusion strength. doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…

Happy to share this brief preprint w/ Oh-Sang Kwon, Minwoo Kim & Hinze Hogendoorn. We suggest that the brain may be able to rapidly re-weight its inputs and predictions during perceptual inference, explaining the puzzling phenomenon of 'position resets'. osf.io/preprints/psya…

You may remember this pretty figure summarizing how tweaking pre-processing and analysis can affect study outcomes, effect size, and statistical power of an ERP study. Now you can find it in Psychophysiology: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/share/author/Y… Dr Suzy J Styles Emily Kappenman Vanja Kovic

I procrastinated again by starting a tutorial on "cognitive models" (stats models that fit well reaction time data) in #Julia dominiquemakowski.github.io/CognitiveModel… I'm quite happy about the animations I managed to make. Julia has a lot of potential!

Nice quick read with an important point: even if a model predicts brain data well it doesn't mean the model uses the same mechanism the brain does. More expressive models generally do better than less expressive models regardless of mechanism.
