At the Manor House, the breakfast room has now turned into a site office. There's something pleasingly purposeful about this. Work will be starting very soon.

Inside the west-facing, side entrance to the Manor House — which, in the way of these things, is the one everyone uses at the moment.

The first photo here explains why we need safe walkways though the house. Some of the floors are in very poor condition — and it's not always obvious which ones are really dodgy, either.

This rambling/climber rose was found overgrown with brambles — we trained it onto the wall to keep it safe. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what it looks like when it blooms — it's already coming into bud.

At the Manor House, an open space connects two much older attics. At present it's covered with a flat glazed roof, c 1980s, that has, unsurprisingly, failed & lets the rain in, damp bits of cloth notwithstanding. We are now working on ideas for a replacement with better details.

I haven't posted much recently, as we're currently at the stage of fine-tuning contracts for the building work — an essential stage of the process, but not particularly photogenic. Here, anyway, is a lovely wallflower, growing on an outbuilding that, alas, needs to be rebuilt.

In 1725, Robert Cunyngham and Elizabeth Arnold moved into the Manor House, Crowland, where they spent about sixteen months. Having learned a bit about them, and about their story, I have posted a very rough draft of it on my website. Link to follow in next tweet.

Different seasons light the Manor House in different ways - showing up new details. Yesterday was the first time I’d noticed that this grate includes two profiles: are they George III and Queen Charlotte? Any better ideas?

Not doing much Crowland posting at the moment, as for some reason I can only log into the account on my phone, not the laptop. Still, here’s a good aerial photo (perhaps c 1940???) in which the Manor House is very easy to spot.

Ever wondered what's inside these cupboards in the kitchen, flanking the hearth? Here's your answer. NB I would love to know why there's a little, deep opening just to the right of the stone right at the bottom.

I hesitated over posting this, but we had sad news recently about someone connected with the Manor House. I don't want to say more (not my story to tell), only to acknowledge kindness, generosity and pleasant memories, and to say "rest in peace".
