The Senate of Kenya has invited public views on the draft Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2024 that seeks to, among other things extend the term limit of elected leaders including the President from 5-7 years.

Happening now WFD Kenya and Mzalendo is convening Civil Society Parliamentary Network (CSPEN) members to review the draft Bill and develop a memoranda for submission to the Senate.

Some of the effects of the proposed amendments will include an increase in oversight role of the Senate, creation of the office of the Prime Minister, 7 years term for elected leaders and increases in county revenue allocation from 15% to 40%

Revenue-raising measures such as the Finance Act impact all Kenyans and are best implemented through transparent processes that respect public sentiment. #FinanceAct2023
