Fern Friday this week is one of my Pyrosia sheareri pushing out plenty of new growth . this one is growing in a hanging basket and has been outside for a few weeks now it’s totally hardy, and I have several planted outside. But I overwintered this one in our unheated greenhouse

All of the Richtersveld material collected as part of the KewGardens Cam Botanic Garden with SANParks has been mounted by CUBG_curators - it looks amazing and leaves a lasting legacy from the trip! The living material is also thriving both here & with Paul Rees

I was stopped in my 👣 by the sheer number of blooms on Aristolochia littoralis in the Tropical House 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Gardd Cymru 🌿 Garden of Wales this tropical birthwort is from western and southern South America - it’s bizarre🪤 flowers attract 🪰 pollinators by mimicking carrion! Mmmm!

Fantastic furry filaments - bog asphodel - Narthecium ossifragum - love the root of the Latin names - in this case the sp. name refers to weak bones - it was thought to cause this in 🐑 that ate it - it just so happens this 🌱 prefers low-calcium acidic bogs!

Wow! As I repotted a two year old plant of Thottea siliquosa 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Gardd Cymru 🌿 Garden of Wales I noticed it was flowering, this is a member of #Aristolochiaceae from South Asia. The seed was kindly donated by TU Dresden - I can’t believe how fast it bloomed from seed!

Our chalk grassland habitat would normally be kept in balance by grazing animals. We don't have any sheep on site (!) so Paul and Chantal have done their best to mimic the grazing action and provide the perfect place for orchids, pasque flowers and other rarities to colonise.

Embreea rodigasiana a close relative of the genus Stanhopea in #Orchidaceae. We have waited and waited for the bud to pop 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Gardd Cymru 🌿 Garden of Wales and it’s finally gone and dun’it! A stunning species from El Choco, #Colombia 🇨🇴, not sure of the scent yet, possibly a note of cut grass…

Parasitic plants constitute 1% of the plant kingdom, approximately 4000 species and are spread across 27 families. Previous studies have shown this group to be poorly represented in ex-situ collections. Help this research: ow.ly/nXxO50GieZ8

The TOPC meet regularly - and today we conducted a 'rolling review' of #plants with #AGM awards (read more here rhs.org.uk/plants/trials-…) - discussing and deciding which plant will keep or have their AGMs rescinded, and suggesting new plants that may be worthy of this accolade.
