Congratulations to Lei.Per on publishing this story in Molecular Therapy! We show that CAR T cells generate humoral immune responses in patients and we engineer them to secrete antibody-cleaving enzymes.

Excited to share my work from Scheinberg Lab lab out today in Nature Chemical Biology where we develop CAR-T cells that produce small molecule drugs at the tumor site. This is an exciting step forward in the utilization of engineered cells for drug delivery! nature.com/articles/s4158…

2.5 years of revision and over 5 years of collaborative work, CONGRATULATIONS to Thomas Gardner , Scheinberg Lab and all others who contributed to this manuscript 🎉🎉🥳🥳. This novel platform will change adoptive T cell therapy. My thesis work will build on this. More info 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

In our Scheinberg Lab paper we demonstrate that T cells can be engineered to release small molecule chemotherapies at the tumor site. We do this using bacterial enzymes. In the current paper, we use immunodeficient mouse models as a human proof of concept.

One critique of this platform that uses bacterial enzymes is that host immune responses will reject it. In my thesis work, I adapt this project in fully immunocompetent mouse models. We've had very promising efficacy results so far!

Congratulations Thomas Gardner and our collaborators in the Tan lab for this awesome work! We show how adoptive T cell therapies like CAR T cells can be used to deliver small-molecule drugs to tumors. This is the first manuscript of many to come on this project.

Congratulations to former fellow Martin Klatt on this groundbreaking publication! Using Mass Spec, we identify a novel target, NDC80, and target it with TCR mimic antibodies.

Congratulations to Dr. Heather Jones on her successful thesis defense today!! She delivered an outstanding presentation. Be on the lookout for her upcoming study on TCR cross-reactivity.

Congratulations to Dr. Bourne (Dr. Christopher Bourne (he/him)) my younger big brother for an incredible thesis today! You’re truly an inspirational person in and out of the lab. A phenomenal scientist, dedicated DEI activist, and a monster of a cyclist! UPenn is incredibly lucky to have you!

I recently gave a short talk at the #CIMT2023 conference in front of 300+ people. Though nervous, I overcame my fears to present to an international audience for the first time. It was so rewarding to engage in meaningful conversations about my research and to hear others’ work.
