We are very grateful to Bill MacCormick Old Alleynians for donating copies of his recent publications The Long Road to the Somme: Episodes 1870-1915 and Planning the Big Push Dulwich Archive. His history monographs are written under the name Alan MacDonald.



Just listened to Paul Sinha Old Alleynians, Ultimate Pub Quiz BBC Sounds. Mondayās 50th episode included many questions about his old school Dulwich College. Although some āfactsā were sadly incorrect.


So pleased that Floella Benjamin will be one of the guest editors BBC Radio 4 BBC Radio 4 Today over the Christmas period.

The Winter 2024 issue of The Dulwich Society journal arrived today with fascinating articles on women and politics from Suffragettes to present day, Dulwich Court Farm, headgear from Everitt W. Vero and the new stained glass in St Stephen's Church among many other pieces.


#OTD 1686 William Cartwright Jr. (or the younger), died. He was an actor like his father, but due to the Civil War & Commonwealth turned himself into a book & picture dealer. He left his collection to Dulwich College, the paintings are Dulwich Picture Gallery.


The Raymond Chandler prize books we bought from Doyle Auctioneers & Appraisers have just arrived. Chandler won the prizes while at school Dulwich College 1900-1905. Their condition suggests he read them & that they moved around the world with him.


#OTD 1894 The Alleyn Club Old Alleynians met at The Criterion in Piccadilly Circus for dinner. In those days they met 4 times a year, the Spring, Autumn and Christmas meetings were informal, while the Summer dinner was the official Annual Dinner, now held in November.


Russ Kane Dulwich College David Bowie Official Roxy Music Phil Manzanera I was amazed at how much memorabilia there was, about so many bands! It was really well displayed too.

#OTD 1897 The Alleyn Club Old Alleynians met for a Spring dinner at the Holborn Restaurant. The evening included not only a lavish repast but also a musical programme concluding with everyone singing Auld Lang Syne. The front cover of the menu Dulwich Archive has a nautical theme.
