Signed on 21st July 1954, the Geneva Accords officially ended the First Indochina War (1946-54) between France and the Viet Minh, establishing a temporary division of Vietnam along the 17th parallel. Elections were planned for 1956 to reunify the country.

On 25th July 1909 Louis Bleriot took off from Calais. Landing near Dover Castle 36 minutes later, he'd become the first to complete a cross-Channel (and, therefore, international) flight. The endeavour earned him £1,000 prize money from The Daily Mail.

After 3yrs of war, on 27 July 1953, the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed between USA (for UN), N.Korea & China. S.Korea refused to sign the agreement but signed treaty with China in 1992. Find out more about the Battle of the Imjin & the 'Glorious Glosters' Soldiers of Glos Mus
