#OTD in ‘44, the Battle of Aachen began when the U.S. 30th ID attacked the city’s northern defenses. After nearly three weeks of combat the Americans captured Aachen, making it the first major German city to fall to the Allies. More than 2,000 Americans died in the battle.

April Cheek-Messier, President & CEO, delivered a keynote address on Omaha Beach, while representing the National D-Day Memorial Foundation at the unveiling of a plaque honoring the "Bedford Boys" with the Bedford Boys Tribute Center and the Virginia National Guard on Sept. 27.

Over the course of WWII, over 4.1 million Americans served courageously in the U.S. Navy. Of the 3.7 million who enlisted, they may have been motivated by war posters like this one, which strove to capture the heroism of wartime service to their country. #WarPosterWednesday

Today we salute General Dwight D. Eisenhower on what would have been his 135th birthday! Eisenhower held many titles in his lifetime, including Supreme Commander, President of the United States, and, most affectionately, the nickname “Ike.” He was born on this day in 1890. #OTD
