Then came the UK producers. We were influenced by what we were playing and hearing so decided to try and make it, but taking into consideration how broad our tastes were it formed something in a similar cadence but with more of an edge to it.

Apple & NG were the first two from the scene to get noticed as producers then Invasion Records came into the fold and Geeneus, MA1 and myself IMHO defined the sound sonically. After that the likes of Crazy Cousins, Roska, HHBanton & Donaeo followed up and became benchmark names.

Still at that time the genre was actually nameless and actual Funky House DJs were seething that this edgier calypso sounding "Funky House" was being called Funky House 😆

NG had an idea to call the genre "Urbance" a fusion between Urban & Dance music, which kinda made sense, however no one was feeling that name (sorry NG lol).

Then around Ayia Napa 2008 times UK Funky started appearing on flyers, a lot of us actually opposed the name initially, but I think it just stuck with us. Me personally I thought to call it "Afrocentric" but I felt the name was too long winded for a music genre.

Also sonically, the music we were playing was very broad too. It was a big mesh of sub genres in our sets throughout the whole duration of the UK Funky golden era. But in a nutshell, that is how UK Funky got its name.
