Kerry Cooks is expected to be named safeties coach at Rice as part of new head coach Scott Abell’s staff, a source tells CBS Sports/247Sports.
Cooks, who was a defensive assistant for the Owls in 2024 under Mike Bloomgren, previously worked for teams like LSU and Notre Dame.
Every year there’s a safety who is undersized but plays with elite instincts and quickness. They usually work out in the NFL.
This year it’s Billy Bowman.
Production was down this year but it’s not his fault opposing teams were afraid to target him.
