Come by poster 123 to see all the cool work Jade Kannangara is doing with mitochondria in Drosophila! Nice experimental evolution looking at frequency-dependent selection and temperature #ICG2023

Congratulations to Jade Kannangara, Ekta, @marivelasque and Vanessa Higham for amazing presentations of their new #mito #evolution research International Congress of Genetics 2023 this week in Melbourne! #DowlingLab

New preprint out!🎉 We tested the impact of mitonuclear decoupling on phenotypes using locally-adapted 🪰 populations and their respective cybrids. #mitochondria #mitonuclear #MSCA 👏Francisca Camus Damian Dowling Enrique Rodríguez and all coauthors UCL Biosciences doi.org/10.1101/2023.0…

🧵1/5 Mitochondrial genetic variation as a potential mediator of intraspecific behavioural diversity. Check out our new review in Trends in Ecology & Evolution led by Jack Brand, with Francisco Garcia-Gonzalez and Damian Dowling. In this review in Trends in Ecology & Evolution, led by Jack Brand, we outline why we believe that mitochondrial genetic variation is likely to be a driver of behavioral diversity; with Bob Wong (@bbmwong.bsky.social) and Francisco Garcia-Gonzalez. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

How important is mtDNA haplotype variation in influencing intraspecific behavioral diversity? Well, we don't really know but Jack Brand Francisco Garcia-Gonzalez, Damian Dowling & Bob Wong (@bbmwong.bsky.social) think it is probably important. Congrats to Jack Brand, Upama Aich, Winston Yee & Bob Wong (@bbmwong.bsky.social) on this great study, and fun collaboration, exploring behavioural plasticity in flies. Led by Jack, we uncover differences in male behavioural consistency under divergent sexual selection tinyurl.com/mr2vm8rx

Congratulations Dr Tara-Lyn Camilleri on your paper on sex-specific transgenerational effects of diet; remarkable results and a great study! Happy Birthday too!

Such a wonderful celebration and reminder of connections and achievements over the years. Thanks so much to Damian Dowling Matt Piper and Winston Yee for attending the ceremony and of course all the continued mentorship and friendship over the years 🩵

Last time I was at the Plenary at MCEC was for Nick Cave. Today, Jade Kannangara from our lab rocked that very stage Biomolecular Horizons 2024 presenting her research on the evolutionary implications of mitochondrial heteroplasmy in response to thermal selection.

Dr Tara-Lyn Camilleri did her PhD in Damian Dowling labs here School of Biological Sciences, Monash. She has been very open and honest about her challenges and this is a great article showcasing her achievements and struggles monash.edu/science/news-e…
