Marion Correctional Institution recently hosted the "Eyes of Freedom" exhibit, a traveling memorial honoring the Lima Company, which lost over 20 men when deployed in Iraq. Excellent work to MCI staff and leadership for hosting this memorial at their facility.

Staff from Richland Correctional Institution and their families volunteered at the Richland County Dog Shelter to upgrade the play yard. Over the two days, they moved 20 tons of crushed asphalt, put up edging, and built a pavilion. Excellent work!

Today, I visited Cadiz to cut the ribbon on Harrison County's new jail, which received $14M from Ohio DRC's Jail Safety & Security Program. With support from the General Assembly, this program has awarded $228M to help fund jail construction and renovation projects across Ohio

Northeast Reintegration Center recently held its second annual Motherhood Conference. Kudos to the NERC staff for their innovative approach to supporting their population.

Warren Correctional Institution (WCI) and Lebanon Correctional Institution (LeCI) held the first two multiple sclerosis (MS) walks for the year, coordinated by now-retired DRC warden Tony Brigano. In total, teams within DRC have raised around $184,000 for MS.

With Independence Day approaching, here's a little-known fact: flags have been made inside the Ohio Reformatory for Women for nearly a century. For decades, incarcerated women have applied to work in the flag shop at OPI, where flags are made with care and precision.

During a recent lunch at the Northeast Reintegration Center, Officer Sharon Vaughn performed the Heimlich maneuver when she saw an incarcerated person choking. Excellent work by Officer Vaughn - her quick thinking and jumping into action without hesitation saved a life!
