My experience is McKinsey focus mainly on defining the problem via data analysis and pay too little attention to the hard yards of how to act on the results of analysis. A challenge also for think tanks as their advice is sought by govt

The NHS Plan says 'By 2035, we anticipate half of all healthcare interactions will be informed by genomic insights and other predictive analytics.' I wonder where this comes from? And what it means. Any thoughts?

The tough line on Trust deficits presuposses the ability to take hard decisions on areas of NHS spend that was singularly absent with regard to welfare spending. Moreover the idea that significant deficits can be eliminated with no negative impact on performance is a fantasy.

10 yr Plan section on 'ending the obesity epidemic' is laughable. Launching a 'moonshot' but little concrete action (and less of any consequence). Whole thing akin to JFK funding NASA to buy a box of fireworks whilst expecting them to deliver the Apollo mission.

Interesting Singapore case study in 10 hr Plan on tackliing obesity. You earn money (vouchers) for engaging in healthy activities recoded by an app. So why not say 'we will implement this'? If you are bold enough to announce a 'moonshot' to end obesity you need bold actions.

Worth asking why it would take the publication of thr 10 yr plan to put a stop to training that staff say is a waste of time?

It also confirmed hospitals have used them as substitutes for drs...no surprise there. Hospitals have been doing same with nursing associates for years, as with many other lesser trained roles. This is taskification of care, now Govt policy in NHS 10 year plan #patientsafety

Louella Vaughan (@drlkvaughan) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Shaun Lintern A substantial chunk of the 10YP is predicated on taskification and workforce substitution. Which the DHSC assumes will be safe cos AI. 'Training to task instead of role' is code for dismantling healthcare professions.

Thoughtful article. The latest strike by resident doctors will serve to accelerate these changes. Doctors have few friends in the corridors of power. They are seen as a constraint and a near existential threat to govt(s) in a similar way that the miners were viewed in the 80's.

Either they never needed the support in the first place in which case why did they get it OR they do need it & losing the money will result in some undesirable consequences- longer wait times for example. Withdrawing deficit support doesn't mean the deficits simply dissapear.

Perpetually rising NHS costs are not inevitable: they are a product of an organisation that prefers to invest in shiny new stuff rather than process improvement: hsj.co.uk/daily-insight/…

NHS Wales wait times are up again including + 2 year waits. 10,254 in May which is an increase of 629 on April. 4 hours performance (June) also declined- 66.3%. For Hosps with an ED it was 53.2%. BBC somehow thinks 'Man jailed for selling fake halal meat' is a bigger story.
