Reversing the Decline: The Crisis Facing the UK Clinical Academic Workforce - my commentary on the recent Medical Research Council report Prof Chris P Gale Mamas A. Mamas Trisha Greenhalgh Dr Rachel Clarke Prof. Devi Sridhar Professor Azeem Majeed A/Prof Sonya Burgess Prof Derek Connolly Prof Shafi Ahmed PhD FRCS Professor Farah Bhatti OBE Taryn Youngstein

🧵/ Astounded by the disingenuousness of Royal College of Physicians' response today to Prof Trisha Greenhalgh & Martin McKee's BMJ systematic review revealing the stark lack of evidence for the safety of PAs in the NHS. There's rewriting history & then there's this shameless doublespeak.

Here the BMJ lays out in stark terms the crisis faced by the Royal College of Physicians. I believe the College has lost the trust of members & ceased to be the credible voice of physicians. This has to change, urgently. This why I back presidential candidate Dr Asif Qasim MA PhD FRCP to do so. 🧵/

Lastly, I believe there there is no-one who would make a better RCP Vice President than @drlkvaughan. And for RCP Council? Nick Hopkinson, Philip Pearson & @DrBarryMonk1 are leaders of huge ability & integrity. They'd be my votes (if only members could, but that's another story...)

Attention FRCPs! Happy #RCPEGM anniversary 😱 Here is why I’m supporting Louella Vaughan to be Clinical Vice-President at RCP London 🗳️ Polls open Monday #VoteLouella

The Royal College of Physicians Commentary Q&A is now live The KFR raised serious concerns about governance, decision making & accountability at the RCP. The governance review must take account of the unique functions of the RCP, the complexity of relationships & the views of stakeholders.

The reasons for my service to the Royal College of Physicians have been called into question. My association with the RCP started all the way back in *2009*, when I was invited to do an invited service review. I have served continuously, more or less, on various committees since. 1/

⏰A few more days left to vote in the RCP elections ⏰ FRCPs - typically only 4 - 5,000 of the 17,000 Fellows vote Never has it been more important for the next president to have a strong mandate Please do vote and consider voting for Dr Asif Qasim MA PhD FRCP for President 1/2
