49: Losses by Kraig Hetz. From 2006 to 2012 Hetz led the Trojans to an overall record of 102-49 (.675), 1 District 10 Title, 1 Region Title, and 3 PIAA Appearances. He also coached the famed 2007-08 team which finished 26-3 and went down as one of McDowell's best teams ever!

48: Years since McDowell's first Lakeshore League Title (LSL). Before regions and the Metro League there were several attempts at leagues for basketball teams in Erie. During the first year of the short lived LSL, McDowell would finish the season tied for 1st place!

47: Years since McDowell's first PIAA game/app. At the end of 1970-71 season the Trojans finished as the D-10 Champ which qualified them for the state tournament. Although McDowell's first PIAA game was a loss (67-51 to Schenley), it would be the first of many over 47 years!

46: Since the 1990-91 season there have been 414 individual player seasons. Of those 414, only 46 have been sophomore seasons. The first (since 1990-91) was Jimmy Delsandro ('93 grad) and the most recent was Cole Becker ('18).

45: The highest career AST% by a player: Jack Costello - 44.9% (rounds to 45%). AST% estimates the # of possessions that end in an assist. Costello is just 1 of 2 players all time w/ a career AST% of 40% or more & a TO% lower than 20%. AST% = AST/(FGA + FTA x .475 + TO + AST).

44: The amount of PIAA games that McDowell has played. From 1971 to the most recent game 2014, McDowell has posted a 24-20 record (.545) in PIAA playoff games. In 19 PIAA appearances McDowell has made 12 Sweet Sixteens, 7 Elite Eights, 3 Western Finals, and 1 State Final!

43: The highest 3PAr by a team: 2017 - 43.0%. 3PAr is the % of FGA that are 3PA. During the 2016-17 season McDowell took a staggering 526 3PA (2nd all-time), a record 22.9 3PA/G! They also set the record for the most players with at least 1 3PA (15).

42: The 1941-42 season saw the Millcreek Trojans win their first Erie County League (ECL) Title in 13 years. That season sparked a stretch of 6 straight ECL Titles from 1941-1947! Also, the 41-42 team was the oldest team ever with an average grade of 11.8!

41: The highest 3-point% by a team: 1996 - 41.1%. The 95-96 Trojans would set the record (then) for 3P (120) and 3P% (still) enroute to a PIAA Western Final showdown vs. cross-town rival Prep. Aaron Garrity put together a MONSTER shooting season that year (59/121 from 3P, 48.8%)!

40: The amount of games lost in the last 5 seasons. During that period (2013-2018) Kevin Casey O'Connor has led McDowell to an aggregate record of 82-40 (.672) while winning 3 District 10 Titles, 2 Region Titles, and making an appearance to the 2014 4A Sweet Sixteen.

39: The 08-09 Trojans held teams to 39.3 ppg. By doing so, that team became the 1st McDowell team in 58 years to hold opponents to under 40 ppg! They also had a DefRt of 70.6 (opp. points per 100 poss.). The 2009 Trojans will no doubt go down as one of best defensive teams ever!

38: The least amount of games played by a three-year player: Lars Weborg - 38. While he may not have starred for the Trojans, Lars was a part of some very good McDowell teams including the famed 27-1 2000 team and the 20-7 2002 team; both of which won District 10 Championships!

37: Seasons since McDowell's last Section I Title. Section I, much like the Lakeshore League & Metro League, was an attempt to organize Erie basketball teams into a league before the creation of Regions. The 81-82 season was the last time that McDowell won the Section I Title.

36: The highest rebound/game AVG by a team: 2014 - 36.3. The 13-14 team was on a rebounding tear as they set the record for the highest offensive, defensive, & total rebound AVG in a season! They also set the record for the most players w/ at least 100 rebounds in a season (5).

35: During his 17 seasons, coach Gus Anderson had just 1 losing season: 1934-35. After starting 4-1, Millcreek's season took a turn for the worse once captain Harvey "Pat" Fails got injured (played just 8 games). The Trojans would lose 9 of their last 10 to finish 5-10 (.333).

34: A somewhat obscure fact today... Since the 1984-85 season McDowell has won at least 9 games every season. That's a 34-season streak which is the longest such streak in school history. Hopefully, the Trojans will make it 35 after this season!

33: Having already been mentioned for coaching one of McDowell's worst teams, Bud McCoy makes the thread for another reason today. Coach McCoy's career winning% of .333 is the worst of any coach with at least 2 years in the position.

32: The most games played by a team in a season: 1980 & 1982 - 32. It's pretty impressive that in a three-year stretch (1979-1982) the record for the most games played in a season was broken and then tied.

31: Since the 1990-91 season McDowell has played in 31 PIAA state playoff games [15 appearances, 16-15 (.516)]. The significance here is that the 1990-91 season was the start of what I call the golden age of McDowell Basketball.
