And great fun today picnicking and hiking with students, postdocs, faculty, and families. It was a beautiful day on the Bay, at China Camp State Park. Here are about half of us, on a hike. Berkeley Neuroscience

New database: Postdoc fellowships entirely dedicated to Neuroscience (neurology, cog. sci, neuroengineering,..). We list 24 Neuro-X postdoc fellowships w/ eligibility, deadline description of the fellowship, amount. Here (scroll down): research.jhu.edu/rdt/funding-op…

Frustrating that the video discussion is not working at virtual SFN. Please DM me if you are trying to see one of my lab's posters, Deepa Ramamurthy DL Ramamurthy (P412.03) or twitterless Han Chin Wang (P412.07).

(lost part of the thread, sorry..) Deepa imaged activity in VIP cells in S1 as mice performed a goal-directed whisker detection task. VIP cells showed strong whisker responses, whisker tuning, and strong lick (but not reward-related) responses. DL Ramamurthy

This is so beautiful, and needed: "an open access book on scientific visualization using python and Matplotlib." 💻: github.com/rougier/scient… 👨‍🏫: labri.fr/perso/nrougier/

(Message from Julie Fabre in the Harris and Carandini lab UCL who does’t have a twitter account 😁) I’m glad to announce the release of Bombcell! Bombcell is a fast quality metrics MATLAB toolbox which automatically evaluates the output of your #Neuropixels spike-sorter, …

Many thanks to all the attendees for making the 2023 (36th!) Barrels Meeting--SfN's longest running satellite--such a fabulous conference! 🐭 #Barrels2023 #SfN23 #SfN2023

Recent from Deepa Ramamurthy in my lab, Curr. Biol. Aug 2023. Q: What behavioral signals are encoded by VIP neurons in whisker S1 during goal-directed behavior (beyond locomotion, arousal)? A: local whisker signals, licking, and expected value of reward pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37499665/

We study how neural circuits and coding are altered in mouse models of autism. Preprint from Han Chin Wang in my lab. The Cntnap2 model of autism has a blurry, unstable whisker map. Adds to growing evidence for degraded neural coding in forms of ASD. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37808857/

Also check out recent review by Hannah Monday on circuit-level theories for sensory coding abnormalities in autism. We suggest different phenotypic clusters across ASD mouse models, with the most common cortical dysfunction being degraded coding. frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

Very excited! Berkeley is forming a broad Neuroscience Dept from molecules to mind including neural computation. Great faculty, PhD program, undergrad major. Starts July 2024. UC Berkeley #neuroscience

Very excited to have our first faculty search in the Neuroscience Dept! We are a broad department spanning molecular, cellular, systems, behavioral, cognitive and computational neuroscience. neuroscience.berkeley.edu. Search is in sys-cog-comp (any area). Exciting community!
