Thurs, 24 Oct 2024. Afternoon beached bird survey at Whitley Bay (photo). No beached birds, but individual flight feathers included those from … gannet, swan sp. and herring gull. Live birds to entertain included pied wagtail, rock pipit, goldfinch, sanderling and golden plover.

Sunday, 27 Oct 2024. Surveyed my section of Druridge Bay (Northumberland) today and found the remains of a fulmar (wings and bones) plus remains from a great black-backed gull. Weather was dry, sky cloud-filled, tide falling.

Thursday, 5 Dec 2024. Beached Bird surveyor / volunteer Jane Hardy (Crazy seal lady/ BDMLR Medic) travelled many miles this icy morning to help NCL Dove Marine Lab. Jane helped by recording, labelling, bagging, weighing, etc. We processed a first-year male razorbill, found Feb 2021 by surveyor Peter Collins.

Wednesday, 22 January 2025. We worked on 3 razorbills today NCL Dove Marine Lab. In the photograph we see PhD student Elayna Daniels (of Liverpool University) working on her own second ever razorbill full necropsy / analysis, under tuition. (Bird found by Chris Beneke, 3 Feb 2012).

Friday, 24 Jan 2025. Working NCL Dove Marine Lab this week we processed 8 razorbills in detail and gathered many tissues for further study. The days passed well in good company.
