🔥hot take🔥: There is too much emphasis on teaching impact evaluation and "what works" in MPP programs. There should be at least as much emphasis on teaching students how to think about, and improve, the **political feasibility** of a policy recommendation.

Next stop is the Speaker designating a time in the next two legislative days to consider the Gaetz Question of Privilege; after it is brought up, you should expect an immediate motion to table the resolution, and that vote will be the first showdown. Buckle up.

A short thread on the legislative effectiveness of the 8 Republicans legislators who ousted Speaker McCarthy: Andy Biggs of Arizona has been in Congress since 2017. In that time, he has successfully authored and passed 1 law,

I count ~50 citations to Allen v. Milligan. This is why Milligan was such a big deal even though it largely preserved existing Section 2 doctrine. It created a permission structure for lower courts to rule in favor of Section 2 plaintiffs. If John Roberts can do it, so can you.

Parents and caregivers across NY depend on accessible, high-quality afterschool programs. We've already shown what's possible with UPK and 3K. Let's create a pathway for universal afterschool in this year's budget.

I wrote this blog post on the Third Circuit's county line ruling. It's a big deal legally, not just politically! It limits parties' ability to organize primaries however they want. It recognizes a policy's disparate electoral effects as a severe burden. electionlawblog.org/?p=142526

Maybe a consequence of minority support for the rule. Of the 1,246 roll call votes ordering the previous question motion from the 59th Congress to the 115th Congress, 1,089 of them were requested by members of the minority party. Or just under 90%.

Just learned that the best precinct-level election data—from the great VEST_Team—is no longer funded and will require an expensive subscription for 2022 data & after! An tragic failure of public & private grantmakers to support this critical resource. election.lab.ufl.edu/paid-datasets/

The head of analytics for the LA Dodgers is a political science PhD. The head of analytics for the Boston Celtics is a political science PhD. How many NFL teams have political scientists running their analytics team?
