SPHERE research supports an enhanced role for nurse practitioners and increased MBS rebates. About 300,000 Australian women save about $400 in expenses. LARCs reduce unintended pregnancy and abortion rates and assist common conditions such as difficult periods and endometriosis.

$25 million pledged to create LARC training centres, including in regional/remote areas. SPHERE’S Accord Trial showed that training GPs on contraceptive counselling and rapid referral pathways benefits patients. This funding brings us closer to exceptional SRH across Australia.

The Federal Government has announced birth control pills Yaz and Yazmin will be available on the PBS from March, taking us one step closer to achieving no cost contraception for women in Australia. After consistent advocacy efforts the SPHERE Coalition applauds this update.

From July, a temporary item number will be introduced for a GP health assessment for women during perimenopause/menopause. The SPHERE Coalition recommends health assessments align with the Red Book 10 Guidelines for Preventive Activities in General Practice.
