Just finished a paper on the role of flies in Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities for class. One of my favorite discoveries was the Victorian fly-cage. According to the Dickensian, these fly-cages allowed flies "to settle so that their buzzing should not be an annoyance”. Pretty sweet.

Visited the amazing Jennifer Angus exhibit at Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg today. The elaborate insect displays were breathtaking! The artwork expertly marries science, visual art and literature to comment on climate change ethics.

Okay, Pro-tip here for Microsoft Office 365 users: Editor > Settings > Inclusivity. Tick the boxes. Your spellchecker will now help you to start overcoming your subconscious biases. (It's a brilliant feature. I wish they'd make more noise about it).

This is why I love science communication and why communicating your research is so important! You may recall not long ago we wrote a paper on Kleptopharmacophagy, a new, but lesser known behaviour where milkweed butterflies apparently gather chemicals from their own caterpillars.

Som abortion thoughts: I teach sex ed and when I explain the menstrual cycle, I emphasize that if you are expecting your period, it’s one day late, and you take a pregnancy test, if it comes back positive, you are considered 4 weeks + 1 day into your pregnancy.

I've muted the thread now but if you have the instinct to treat Florida as a lost cause or an exception to what's happening in higher ed elsewhere in this country, you are more ignorant than the "Florida man" memes you love to circulate.

There’s a common thread linking the decline in humanities majors, Hollywood paying its writers pennies and the tech world wanting all writers and painters to be replaced by machines. We’ve entirely forgotten how essential the arts and literature are to a healthy society.
