Public Health Practice Gems #COVID19 has increased the general interest in public health. So I thought it worthwhile to provide some framing for folks new to this field. The goal is to provide an overview of public health: 1) Principles 2) Intervention Strategies 3) Actors

Just so we're clear: One can be both anti-pandemic and anti-zero #COVID. While I don't advertise, I have been face-to-face with this virus in clinical settings since March. It's from that experience seeing such inequities, I know this response to be misguided in many places.

#COVID19 is a scary time. Fear turns to anger in a heartbeat and it's natural to vent. Before we blame choices for driving infections, check if socioeconomic inequities predict infections locally as is often the case. If they do, let's start with blaming and fixing the system.

Any strategy for #COVID19 that doesn't even mention equity is only a strategy to keep protecting rich people.

In case it needs to be said, there are very few places in Ontario (or the world) where MDs can be effective in their jobs without partnership from allied health professionals.

Politics will always contextualize public health, but the political process should not drive public health decision making.
