Sandeep Vaheesan True story: for 1 of my Econ classes at GMU we HAD 2 buy a book by GMU prof. Peter Boettke. It was $100. At end of semester, bookstore wouldn’t even buy the book back for $1. I emailed Boettke asking if free market supply & demand set the original $100 price. He never replied.

"Professor" who thinks students are just labor to be used for her research, not as pupils to be educated. If you were wondering who funds her research and guessed The Koch Foundation, you're right.

Nothing personal against JD herself but this case is an extremely clear cut example of the wider phenomenon of Karenness being transformed into an academic career

McDonald’s worker in the US: $9/hr McDonald’s worker in Denmark: $22/hr, 6 weeks of annual vacation, a union, 1 year of paid family leave, life insurance and pension. America must join the rest of the industrialized world and ensure that our working class can live with dignity.

Adjunct faculty at VCU--like adjuncts at GMU--earn poverty wages, sometimes as little as $20,000 a year for a 4/4 load, without benefits. We can no longer run public universities by exploiting adjunct labor. Support UCW-VCU Adjunct Committee by signing their petition: BIT.LY/VCU-AOFP

This morning, a Harvard professor was quoted in @NYTimes suggesting that the crisis Texas is the "necessary" result of markets working properly. What it didn't say is that his research is largely funded by fossil fuel and utility interests. (THREAD)

Biden said he won't cancel student debt above $10,000 because he doesn't want to bail out students from elite colleges. Just 0.3% of student loans are from Ivy League schools. 12% are from all top-tier schools. Rich people don't go into debt for college. cnbc.com/2021/02/19/ver…

Jeff Bezos is worth $182 billion and the fact that he chooses to do everything within his power to keep the 5,800 predominantly Black workers in Alabama from unionizing for humane working conditions proves that he knows he didn't earn his fortune. He exploited workers for it.

The willingness of universities to cater to billionaires is striking. My school—already rife with inappropriate donor influence—just appointed a billionaire donor’s son to a search committee for the director of a new center. Marshall Steinbaum 🔥 UnKoch Everything savingslu.org/chaifetz-schoo…

In contrast to the pitch below, this article feels like a step backwards in our understanding of structural racism as economists. 1/7
